Separate your hoops into four pieces. I actually like the look of the screw hardware that comes with the hoops, so I left it as-is.
Stain your hoops & let dry for about 30 minutes.
Take one hoop "set" and push the inside hoop part into the outside hoop part at a 90* angle. You will want to tighten the hoop screw on the outside hoop all the way.
Take the inside hoop from the other set and push it inside at a 45* angle, making a sphere shape. Spread the hoops out to equal angles.
Take the last piece, the outside hoop from the second set, and slide it over top of the sphere.
(you're almost there, I swear)
Once you have you shape sorted, you can decide how you want to fasten the hoops together permanently. There are two methods you can use:
A) The Lazy Way: Use Tacky Glue or Wood Glue at the intersections.
Note: This way will not give you the nailhead look at the hoop intersections.
Tip: Only use a dab of glue! If you use too much, it will seep out the sides and may be noticeable after it dries. If you do get some spill-over, just wipe off the excess with a paper towel.
If this is the route you choose, your beautiful Sphere Sculpture will look like this:
B) The Easy Way: Thumb Tacks. You can use Silver or Gold Thumb Tacks, whatever is your preference. This option will give you the look of the nailheads at the hoop intersections.
C) The Hard Way: Thumb Tacks. You can use Silver or Gold Thumb Tacks, whatever is your preference. This option will give you the look of the nailheads at the hoop intersections.
Note: There is potential of stabbing your fingers, cursing the world, and a need for bandaids if you aren't careful. I assume no responsiblity for your clumsiness, as I had to assume responsibility for my own.
...and not to say "I told you so", but...
$3 Sphere Sculpture in 15 minutes...not to shabby! :)
